In 2024 I only made 1 New Years Resolution…
In 2024 I only made one New Year’s resolution. I was at a New Year’s Eve party last year, and the topic of New Year’s resolutions came up so naturally everyone went around in a circle, sharing with the group the goals for the year ahead.
By the time it reached me I hadn’t had the chance to give it much thought, so caught off guard I just said first thing that came to mind - I wanted a new job. It wasn’t a particularly well-thought-out answer, but it was honest. I didn’t have a clear vision of what kind of job I wanted or how I’d get there, but deep down, I knew I craved a change.
As the year began, life happened, as it always does. Challenges cropped up, distractions pulled me in different directions, and I wad buried in the busyness of my daily routine. For a while, my resolution just seemed like just another forgotten promise I had made with myself. But for some reason something about that offhand declaration at the party stuck with me. Maybe it was the act of saying it out loud in front of others or the fact that I’d given myself a clear timeline. By the time July rolled around, It was as if a quiet alarm had gone off in my mind, reminding me that half the year was already gone. Time was slipping away, and not wanting to let myself down, I clicked into gear and seriously looked into making my resolution a reality.
I started small. I researched. I revamped my resume and painstakingly tailored cover letters. I sent out applications, had rejections, but just kept at it. Some days, it felt pointless. But little by little, momentum built. And now, as I sit here reflecting on the year, I realise how that one offhand comment set everything in motion. As by October, I’d done it—I found a new job. And one I really like at that.
Looking back, it’s clear to me now: that casual declaration at a party became the seed for something meaningful. So as we stand on the cusp of a new year, I want to leave you with this: what’s one thing you’d like to change or achieve? Whether it regards your style, your health or your career, It doesn’t have to be big or perfect—just something that matters to you. Set the intention, give yourself 12 months, and you might just surprise yourself with where it leads.
Happy New Year! Thank you for your support in 2024, and here’s to making next year even better.
